City thanks Cape Town residents for supporting cleanliness during the 2025 festive period

13 January 2026

The Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Alderman Grant Twigg, thanks residents, visitors and City staff for their shared commitment to keeping Cape Town clean during the busy 2025 festive period.

The festive season traditionally places increased pressure on waste collection services as thousands of visitors make use of the city’s beaches, parks and public spaces. Generally, during the festive period, refuse volumes rise across several areas. Despite these demands, many neighbourhoods remained clean and welcoming thanks to cooperation among residents, visitors and City teams.

‘The level of cooperation shown by our communities during the 2025 festive period has been encouraging. When residents play their part, and City services are supported, we are able to deliver cleaner and safer environments for everyone,’ said Alderman Twigg.

He also acknowledged the dedication of City staff who worked throughout the festive period to ensure services continue.

‘Our waste management teams worked tirelessly during one of the busiest times of the year. Their commitment, professionalism and resilience ensured that essential services continued, even under increased pressure,’ added Alderman Twigg.

While some service backlogs and complaints were reported during peak periods, these have been logged and are receiving attention, with teams deployed to address outstanding issues as quickly as possible.

As the festive season continues, Alderman Twigg urges residents to remain vigilant, dispose of waste responsibly and support community clean-up initiatives where possible.

‘By working together, we can maintain service delivery standards and ensure that Cape Town remains a clean, welcoming city throughout the festive season and beyond,’ he concluded.
